KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Energy Commission chairman Datuk Pian Sukro was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara cemetary yesterday.
He died of a stroke at Agostino Gemelli University polyclinic in Rome, Italy, on Saturday.
His body arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6.50am and was taken to Balai Islam at Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) complex in Jalan Bangsar. He was 63.
Pian is survived by his wife, Datin Dr Kobkua Suwannathat, a history lecturer at University Pendidikan Sultan Idris, two sons, Bhumi Mas, 34, and Putra Mas, 29, and daughter, Puteri Sari Mas, 25.
He collapsed on arrival at an airport while on a one-day transit back to Kuala Lumpur on Oct 23 after attending the World Energy Regulatory forum in Athens, Greece.
Bhumi, an engineer, said he and his siblings were shocked when they received a call from their mother.
"She told us that our father suffered a stroke and was in a coma.
"It happened so fast and we flew to Rome to be by his side."
Bhumi added that Pian was in coma for a week. He said his father was healthy and did not have any heart problem.
"He was jovial, kind and very dedicated to his work.
"He is much loved by his colleagues and employees."
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui and Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor were among those who paid their last respect.
Pian was a former president and chief executive officer of TNB before he was appointed commission chairman three years ago.
He served the country's national electricity provider for 34 years.
