Bibiana guns down her national mark

2010/02/08

BIBIANA Ng, who had a disastrous outing at last year’s Laos Sea Games, broke her own national record in the women’s 25-metre pistol at the Selangor Shooting Championship in Subang yesterday.

She posted a 780.7 total, surpassing her two-year-old national record by 1.1 points.

The 33-year-old policewoman shot a 97-95-97-99-95-94 series for 577 points in the preliminary round.

In the final round, she posted a 203.7 total to win the gold medal ahead of second-placed Joseline Cheah (776.1) and Siti Nur Masitah Badrin (201.2).

Bibiana said her record-breaking feat is timely ahead of important assignments this year.

“I did not shoot well in the Sea Games but I have put that outing behind me. I needed a good start here and now that I have gotten it, I must prepare harder for priority assignments such as the New Delhi Commonwealth Games,” said Bibiana at the Subang Shooting Range yesterday.

She bagged her second gold of the day in the team event when together with Siti Zawiyah Mohamed and Sukmazura Ahmad, they recorded a combined total of 1,692 points for Police ahead of second-placed Pahang (1,691) and Selangor (1,690).

In the women’s 10m air rifle, Nur Ayuni Farhana Abd Halim posted 499.9 points to win the gold medal.

The 19-year-old was a mere 0.6 points short of the six-month-old national record set by Shahera Rahim Raja, who finished second in the event with a 495 series.

Muslifah Zulkifli won the bronze with a 493.2 series.

However, Shahera led Armed Forces to a record breaking effort in the team event. She teamed up with Nur Suryani Taibi and Muslifah to post a 1,178 total to erase the four-month-old national record by a point.

Armed Forces won the overall title with a haul of nine gold, eight silver and eight bronze followed by Police (7-3-6) and Perak (4-5-0).
