'MCA needs Najib to resolve conflict'

KLUANG: The time has come for the MCA to seek the assistance of Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak to help solve its problems.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the MCA needed to settle the matter as soon as possible before the people became fed-up with the party's internal squabbles.

"I am sure the prime minister is willing to help the MCA if he is asked to do so.

"When the people are fed up with the party, they would find an alternative, which in the end would be detrimental to the MCA and BN.

"I am saying this not because I want to meddle in MCA's affairs but because I am concerned with the well- being of MCA since most of its leaders are my friends," Hishammuddin said after launching the Sembrong Youth Carnival in Taman Sri Lambak yesterday.

Also present were Paloh assemblyman Hoo Seong Chang and Kahang assemblyman R. Vidyanathan. (Paloh and Kahang are the two state seats within Sembrong, whose MP is Hishammuddin.)

Civil Defence Department director-general Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid and Rela director-general Datuk Zai-don Asmuni were also present.

Hishammuddin said government agencies and youth organisations should review their training modules to attract more members.

"They need to be able to fulfil the different needs of youth, both in urban and rural areas.

"At the moment, there are about nine million youth in the country who have yet to join any uniformed bodies.

"We want to encourage them to do so."

Hishammuddin said having more youth in uniformed bodies would be a unifying factor that could help the government realise the 1Malaysia vision as it allows people from all races and religions to interact with one another.

"If politics and education can polarise people of different races and religions, then I hope being in a uniformed body would unite them."
