Tourists to pay for traditional performances in Kelantan

2009/11/21

PASIR PUTEH, Sat: The Kelantan National Culture and Arts Department plans to commercialise 392 types of art in the state similar to the move taken by Thailand and Indonesia.
Its director Ismail Yusuf said wayang kulit, dikir barat and mak yong as well as several types of traditional music were among those identified in the plan.

"Tourists may be required to pay tickets of between RM10 and RM20 to watch these performances," he said after a campaign to promote arts and culture here today.

Pasir Puteh Umno chief Zawawi Othman opened the event.

Ismail said proceeds from the show would be donated to the related associations to finance their activities.
He said that currently there were 392 art related associations with 14,332 members. -- BERNAMA
