Federal Govt to help states improve 2010 GDP growth

2009/11/21

KUALA SELANGOR: The federal government will help states improve their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth next year, Second Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said today.

He said the federal government would take several initiatives to help states with poor GDP growth to perform better.

Husni was speaking to reporters after officiating a ground breaking ceremony of an abandoned housing project in Bandar Alam Perdana near here.

He added that the government would adopt strategies to help the country achieve a GDP growth of five per cent next year.

Earlier, the government forecast a GDP growth of between two and three per cent for next year but the Ministry of Finance revised the forecast to five per cent.

In order to achieve the five per cent GDP target, Ahmad Husni said the government would help raise consumer demand through several initiatives.

He declined to elaborate on the initiatives but said several proposed projects with private sector involvement would be speeded up.

He also said projects involving government linked companies (GLCs) would be implemented in the first quarter of 2010.

Ahmad Husni said," With these activities in the pipeline, we are very confident of achieving the five per cent GDP growth rate for 2010". - Bernama
