Sunny Hill ice cream to cool down effects of El Nino.. or election fever

KUCHING: El Nino, along with election fever is heating up the state capital.

City folks have been waking up to sunny mornings over the week and the hot weather is beginning to turn a little bit unbearable in the afternoon.

The Malaysian Metrology Department’s website forecasts that Kuching will continue to experience sunny days with temperatures as high as 33 degrees Celsius until Wednesday.

However, the heat did not stop the political parties, party machinery and candidates from hitting the campaign trail for the 11th Sarawak election.

Media practitioners, police personnel, officers from various agencies and organisations and party leaders from the Peninsula have also flocked to the state since last week to join them.

For those who are on duty in the capital of Sarawak – the Cat City, there is a famous ice cream parlour which should not be missed.

It is the Sunny Hill ice cream shop.

Forget about sitting in a fancy cafe or franchised dessert outlet as Sunny Hill has consistently been rated as the best ice cream place by the locals for decades.

Located at Jalan Bukit Cahaya, it has an old-school canteen design and has been operating since the 60s.

Always crowded with customers of all ages, included the elderly, it offers affordable milky, smooth and soft ice cream.

Priced as low as RM2.80, you can walk away with an ice cream cone, either to cool down from the hot weather or from the election fever.

Other items available on the menu are banana split, ice cream sandwich and ice cream float. Toppings such as syrup and peanuts are available as well, to satisfy your taste bud.
