(Badminton) Wrist injury elbows Chen Long out of Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Reigning Olympic champion Chen Long of China withdrew from the ongoing Malaysia Open here after injuring his right wrist.

The 2015 champion was scheduled to take on Hong Kong's Vincent Wong in the quarter-finals later today at the Perpaduan Stadium.

The new development now makes it a little easier for world No 1 Lee Chong Wei, who plays South Korean Jeon Hyeok Jin in the last eight stage, to reach the finals, should he win.

A showdown with nemesis Lin Dan in the final on Sunday is also on the cards.

The China ace plays Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in the quarter-finals and is likely to play fifth seed Son Wan Ho of South Korea in the semi-finals on Saturday, barring any upsets.
