Op Tukul: Logging firm supervisor fined, jailed 45 days for bribery

SIBU: A logging company supervisor was slapped with RM10,000 fine and sentenced to 45 days' jail after he pleaded guilty to corruption at a Special Court for Corruption here today.

Law King Chai, who had previously claimed trial to the offence, however, changed his plea when the case was call for case management today.

The accused, 47, was convicted with offering RM2,000 to Inspector Mohamad Dzakriya Abdul Kader, who is attached to the Batu Kawa General Operation Force, at a logging area in Kampung Boyan, Jalan Selangau-Mukah, near here on Sept 8.

According to the fact of the case, Law had offered the bribe to Dzakriya as an inducement to not take action against him for an offence under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 1958, following his alleged involvement in illegal logging.

Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong also ordered for the bribe money to become the government's revenue.

Law paid the fine and was sent to the Sibu prison to serve his jail sentence.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission prosecuting officer Katherine Nais prosecuted.

Law was one of 12 individuals detained under Op Tukul for offences related to corruption and illegal logging.
