SUBANG JAYA: MCA cannot agree to the implementation of hudud as it is against the Federal Constitution, its president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.
“We cannot agree with this (hudud) and it is of serious concern.
“Pas is trying their level best to implement hudud and change the law...It is against the Federal Constitution,” he said at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and TARCian Alumni Association Chinese New Year and staff appreciation dinner here tonight.
Liow said MCA respected Islam and its laws but the Federal Constitution only allowed civil law to be used for criminal offenses.
"It would cause chaos if we were to implement two different laws for the same criminal offences," he added.
Liow’s comments echo those of MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who earlier today said the party would not support the hudud bill as it went against the Federal Constitution.
“We are against it. No we cannot support this,” he told reporters after attending a hi-tea reception with state MIC leaders and members in Butterworth.
