IJM Corp on steady expansion mode

PETALING JAYA: IJM Corp Bhd's construction order book of RM8.7 billion is in a steady course of expanding as the company actively bids for government infrastructural jobs.

"The government is rolling out infrastructural projects, particularly in building of rail projects such as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 and the ECRL. We hope to win more job packages as we place our bids,” said IJM Corp chief executive officer Datuk Soam Heng Choon.

"We also hope to participate in the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project considering there's the Kuantan Port City station and a spur line into Kuantan Port,” he told reporters after the company's shareholders meeting here today.

"We’re already partnering with China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) in putting in a deepwater terminal at Kuantan Port,” he added.

Also present were IJM Corp deputy chief executive officer Lee Chin Fai and chief financial officer Cyrus Eruch Daruwalla.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak officiated at the RM55 billion ECRL project’s groundbreaking ceremony in Bandar Baru Kuantan, Pahang.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd, owned by the Minister of Finance Inc, is the ECRL project owner while CCCC is the main contractor of this new 688km railway line.

On IJM Corp’s property division, Soam said the group plans to make RM750 million worth of launches for the current year ending March 2018.

On the restructuring of Scomi Group Bhd and two listed units, Soam said IJM Corp, which owns 24.6 per cent of Scomi Group, supports the move.

“It would strengthen the merged entities. We’re all for it considering the value creation to us as shareholders,” he said.
