KUALA LUMPUR: Nomura Group expects “no surprises” from the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14), with Barisan Nasional (BN) retaining power.
“We believe that BN is going to win the GE14. We are more certain of this than we were back in 2013 for GE13,” said Nomura research analyst Tushar Mohata during a media briefing on the Malaysian economic and equities outlook here today.
“As such, we expect there will be a lot of buying of equities in the first half, and a lot of selling in the second half, which is a typical pattern of any election year,” he added.
For 2018, Nomura is overweight in seven sectors namely aviation, gaming, hotels and leisure, consumer, chemicals, telecommunications, oil and gas and financials.
