KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) – Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MIM) has received encouraging response for its premium office building, Medini 9, which is expected to open end-May.
MIM Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr James Tee, said the construction of the 21-storey building was completed and the office space would be handed over to the tenants.
“So far, Medini 9 has secured a number of anchor firms, local and overseas, from various industries such as information and communications technology, software design and business process outsourcing.
“We also have the big four accounting firms and government-linked companies,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a document exchange ceremony between MIM and Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn Bhd (BHPetrol) here today.
MIM is the master developer of Medini Iskandar Malaysia (Medini), a 902.4 hectares township which is also the central business district in Iskandar Puteri.
Tee said Medini 9 has a net lettable area of over 422,857 square feet (sq ft), and about 50 per cent, or 200,000 sq ft of its office space has been taken up by co-working space operator, CO3 Social Office Sdn Bhd, and the remaining space by several other companies.
“We also hope to attract small and medium-sized enterprises to Medini 9,” he said.
Based on the positive response to Medini 9, Tee said he did not expect an oversupply of office space in Medini.
Meanwhile, BHPetrol Managing Director Tan Kim Thiam said the company invested RM5 million to set up its first petrol station in Medini.
“We plan to set up 10 to 15 new petrol stations, nationwide, this year, and this is our fifth petrol station this year,” he said.
Covering an area of 44,000 sq ft, the BHPetrol station in Medini would be the company’s 380th petrol station in Malaysia.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the station, expected to be completed in eight months, was expected to be held in the fourth quarter of this year.
