SUBANG JAYA: Grab, Malaysia and Southeast Asia’s leading Online-to-Offline (O2O) platform, aims to double the number of food and beverage merchants in its GrabPay Mobile Wallet (GrabPay) from 500 to 1,000 in the next two months.
Ooi Huey Tyng, Managing Director of GrabPay Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines, said the company will place greater focus on F&B merchants which are more inclined to conduct cash payments in order to encourage the use of cashless payment in the country.
“For starters, we will focus on the merchants in this segment before expanding other segments, with millions of Grab users now able to access the mobile wallet function, which is safe, simple and flexible,” she said at the launch of GrabPay on Tuesday.
She said the services, which could previously only accept debit or credit cards, has been upgraded thanks to the e-wallet, which can be accessed via the Grab application to reload and spend ‘GrabPay credits’.
“Users can not only use the Grab app to pay for Grab services such as GrabFood and transport, but can also be used at partner premises which have the GrabPay QR code.
“Consumers can also transfer money directly to each other conveniently via the app with just a few simple taps,” she said.
“What’s stopping many in Malaysia from adopting cashless is the perceived lack of safety and convenience. With GrabPay, consumers across Malaysia, regardless of age, can participate in the cashless, digital economy without having to download additional apps.
“By topping up money on Grab as your everyday app, you can easily track your spend and pay cashless conveniently and safely,” said Ooi.
GrabPay is now accepted in more than 500 F&B merchants spanningin the Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Kuantan.
