KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holding Bhd (MAHB) expects to gain RM1 billion worth of investments within the next five years following its RM150 million initial investment in two of its business components.
Speaking at a media briefing today, MAHB general manager of land development Randhill Singh said there are multiple economic impact on this initial investment, namely the air cargo and logistic component well as the aerospace and aviation.
“One of our main priorities in 2019 is to continue develop the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) and the master planning for Subang Airport Regeneration which include the development of Subang Aerotech Park as part of the overall KLIA Aeropolis masterplan,” he said.
“As of right now, RM60 million from the RM150 million have already been used for DFTZ and the rest would be used towards the development of Subang Aerotech Park.”
He said some 3,300 jobs will also be created within the next five years.
When asked on the breakdown of the RM1 billion expected investment, Randhill said 50 per cent of it would likely be from foreign direct investment.
“We are expecting this RM1 billion will come from our existing partners who are all long term investors and new ones who would be interested in the progress and expansion of KLIA Aeropolis,” he said.
“We are open to any kind of investments that make sense, whether it is from foreign or local players. If we see there are long term benefits than we will be open to it.”
Randhill also stressed that MAHB is not looking to develop any kind of townships within the KLIA Aeropolis as the development’s focus is in industrial and residentials.
Spanning more than 100 sq km and twice the size of Putrajaya, the KLIA Aeropolis is envisioned as a state-of-the-art aviation hub surrounded by customised transportation links, differentiated commercial offerings as well as corporate suburbs connecting workers to the global marketplace once it is completed in 2050.
