JOHORE: Ranhill Holdings Bhd, through unit Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, will undertake measures to push the reduction of its non-revenue water (NRW) in Johor to five per cent by 2025, from its current 24.12 per cent.
Ranhill SAJ and asset management company Pengurusan Aset Air Sdn Bhd (PAAB) have allocated RM3.4 billion for the accelerated NRW reduction programme, which will run over the next seven years.
“While Ranhill SAJ is already in full compliance with meeting the key performance index (KPIs) set by Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN) to reduce water loss in the state and has achieved the lowest NRW per kilometre of pipe in Malaysia, we must now fast track the reduction as demand for water continues to rise in tandem with growth in population, industrialization and property development projects in Johor,” said Ranhill Holdings president and chief executive Tan Sri Hamdan Mohamad in a statement.
“We have identified areas, where physical and commercial losses are most evident and these will be addressed by the programme. Given our reputation for consistency and reliability, we are confident of sustainably managing our water resources to meet our five per cent NRW target by 2025,” he added.
There are 94 pipe rehabilitation projects to be completed by Ranhill SAJ by 2020, while steps will also be taken to address inaccurate meter readings and illegal use of water in the state.
The programme has been approved in principle by SPAN.
Ranhill SAJ, which has been operating in Johor for nearly 20 years, contributes 77 per cent to the Ranhill Group's total revenue.
It recently entered into an agreement with Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd to implement joint billing for water supply and sewerage services in the state which will be rolled out in 2019.
