Malaysia's first flying car 85 per cent complete

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s first “flying car” is 85 per cent in progress and may be close to completion by next month, said Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

Mohd Redzuan is expected to fly to Japan in September for an aviation conference to preview the prototype which is currently being built in the country.

He said the car may be “flying home” by end of the year as Malaysia puts in efforts to regulate the industry.

"I am going to Japan in September for an aviation conference and I hope to get to see the almost complete (flying) car that we will be going to bring back towards the end of the year," Mohd Redzuan told reporters after launching the SME Leadership Conference 2019 here today.

“Whether the flying car will be launched by year-end, it would depend on Malaysia's ecosystem for flying cars, especially in term of availability to fly at that time,” he added.

Mohd Redzuan said the ministry was in talks with various ministries to have the flying car industry regulated in Malaysia.

“Flying car is a private initiative. We need to create the (flying car) industry in Malaysia. Having said that, it needs to be regulated,” he said.

It was reported that a Malaysian company listed on the New York Stock Exchange has been developing the prototype.

The firm was said to build the flying car in Japan as the country has the ecosystem to support the new industry.
