KUALA LUMPUR: The spike in demand for rubber gloves due to the explosive outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) has caused Top Glove to work around the clock.
Top Glove Corporation Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai said the total sales orders received over the sudden increase in demand are equivalent to more than double their usual sales.
“As an essential item in the healthcare industry, the demand for gloves has been on the increase following the outbreak of the Coronavirus, also called the Wuhan flu.
“In particular, we have seen a spike in orders from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan," he said when contacted.
However, as pressed as the company is with the high demand, Top Glove said it is willing to help protect people from the virus.
“We are pleased to be in a position to help protect and save lives.
“We are doing whatever we can to help as much as we can. We are also able to ramp up our glove production to ensure that we are able to cater to the surge in demand.”
Lim said Top Glove has donated latex examination gloves to local hospitals in Hubei province
The company’s team in China are also doing their best to distribute the rubber gloves to where it is most needed, he informed.
“One of the issues that we are handling is the delivery of rubber gloves to various locations that requested for the item.
"The gloves are already in our warehouse in China, so it is a matter of sending them out to the various locations requesting.
"However we understand clearance may take a little longer in view of the extended Chinese New Year holiday and some restrictions in transportations into Wuhan," he said.
