KUALA LUMPUR: Acme Holdings Bhd is expected to sign a joint venture agreement with Skymind Intelligence Systems Sdn Bhd (Skymind) this week to build an electronic assembly manufacturing facility for the latter's edge devices.
An edge device provides an entry point into enterprise or service provider core networks.
The devices include routers, routing switches, integrated access devices, multiplexers as well as a variety of metropolitan area network and wide area network access devices.
It is learnt that the manufacturing facilities would be the first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
All the edge devices which are going to be manufactured there have been previously successfully tested and deployed in China.
Skymind is a global Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem builder which enables companies and organisations to launch their AI applications and bring their business cases to life.
This is done by providing clients with supported access to its open-source AI tools such as Deeplearning4j as well as global capital funding for promising AI innovation and talent development.
Present in 14 countries, Skymind in recent years had developed AI solutions in aerospace, medical, manufacturing, logistics, weather forecast, security and data management.
Skymind has more than 3.5 million users worldwide, with 350 companies in the Top Fortune 500 collaborating with it.
Meanwhile, Acme - which is listed on Bursa Malaysia's Main Board - deals in the manufacturing of plastic components and property development.
Its subsidiaries include Supportive Technology Sdn Bhd and Welcome Properties Sdn. Bhd.
The company, through Supportive Technology, produces a range of plastic and wooden speakers for home entertainment systems, stereos and computers, as well as digital audio broadcast products for the local and export market.
Acme has two factories in Sungai Petani, Kedah.
