KUALA LUMPUR: Coway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd inked a sponsorship agreement with Sunway University, paving the way for a six-month collaboration with the students and researchers of Sunway University.
The mutually beneficial partnership will see Coway contributing RM30,000 towards research and training activities that support the product life-cycle development of Coway, as well as Solutions Lab, which is a brand new initiative under Sunway Innovation Labs (iLabs) that empower young innovative talents of Sunway University to co-create solutions that solve the real-world problems faced by the industry.
Coway Malaysia managing director Kyle Choi is confident that this partnership will yield manifold results for Coway workforce and the university's undergraduates.
"Education and training are both a life-long journey. As such, we remain committed in our efforts to invest in our employees' ongoing training. Conversely, with the immense opportunities for knowledge sharing available at Coway, Sunway University's undergraduates too will benefit from internships, project-based micro-placements and long-term recruitments in our organisation," Choi said in a statement today.
"We are also confident that the university's expertise, cutting-edge technological know-how and research capabilities will be help realise our goal to create a better environment," he said.
Choi signed the agreement on behalf of Coway Malaysia, while the university's vice-chancellor Professor Graeme Wilkinson signed the agreement for the university.
Later, Choi presented the mock cheque for the RM30,000 sponsorship to Wilkinson.
"It is a privilege to have a global industry player like Coway to be part of our ecosystem and we are sure that our students and researchers will benefit from the wealth of industry experience.
"At the same time, we are humbled at the opportunity to be one of training providers for Coway's employees in the coming months. This is indeed an enriching and meaningful journey for us as we enter into 2021," Wilkinson said.
Also present to witness the signing of the agreement were Coway Malaysia's chief financial officer Daniel Choi and head of marketing division Chris Noh.
They were joined by chief innovation officer of Sunway Group & Sunway iLabs director Matt van Leeuwen and Sunway iLabs foundry head Karen Lau.
Van Leeuwen said this partnership with Coway is a testament that what the organisation have built in Sunway iLabs over the last few years as an integrated innovation platform that closes the gap between industry and academia.
"The student and academic talents we are developing are the fuel that powers up the innovation engine by building truly market-driven solutions," he said.
iLabs Foundry, a division of Sunway iLabs oversees the industry partnership development of Sunway University, and aims to bridge the gap between academic and industry through innovation co-creation.
