KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) says there will be more electrification collaboration between companies as it plans to roll out more electric vehicles in the near future.
HSDM said this during the launch of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover utility vehicle (CUV).
The company is currently collaborating with Mecomb, a subsidiary of Sime Darby Industrial, in providing home charging product and installation solutions.
Additionally, it is working with Yinson Green Technologies, in collaboration with GreenTech Malaysia, to offer access to the ChargEV network with over 300 charging stations nationwide.
"Hyundai is paving the way for affordable EV ownership. There will be more EVs in the line-up by various brands under Sime Darby Motors as we aim to lead in Malaysia's push towards low carbon mobility with a suite of products, services and capabilities across the automotive value chain to support the country's EV plans," said Sime Darby Motors Malaysia retail and distribution managing director Jeffrey Gan.
Exuding Hyundai's "Parametric Dynamics" design, the 3,000-mm wheelbase Ioniq 5 is built upon Hyundai's dedicated Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) architecture – Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
It is available in three variants namely Lite, Plus and Max. All three variations are capable of fast charging and have a top speed of 185 kph.
Both Lite and Plus 2-Wheel Drive (2WD) variants are equipped with a 58 kWh battery pack while the Max All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant provides a longer range with a 72.6 kWh battery pack.
All of them supports both 400-V and 800-V charging infrastructures.
The platform offers 800-V charging capability as standard and 400-V charging without the need for additional components or adapters.
It can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 47 minutes with a 50-kW DC charger. A standard 11 kW home AC charger can charge it from 0 to 100 pct in 6.1 hours.
Eco-friendly materials were used in many touchpoints of the 'Living Space' themed interior design.
It has a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function that can supply up to 3.6 kW of power. It also comes with advanced connectivity and driver assistance features.
According to HSDM managing director Low Yuan Lung, the Ioniq 5 was selling very well in most countries.
He is confident that this futuristic-designed all-electric CUV will appeal to Malaysians too.
"It is definitely the ultimate electric CUV to own with its best-in-class performance, range, complete safety features including the Smartsense suite and an ultra-fast charging speed," he added.
The Ioniq 5 Lite, Plus and Max is priced from RM199,888, RM229,888, and RM259,888 respectively.
Priced are on-the-road without insurance, fully exempted from import and excise duties, sales tax as well as road tax as announced under Budget 2022.
It is the second electric vehicle to be rolled out in Malaysia by HSDM after the Kona Electric last year.
