KUALA LUMPUR: Resintech Bhd sees vast growth potential for healthy foods, supplements, and other related products with increased health awareness following the Covid-19 pandemic and the elderly population in Malaysia and most developed countries.
Following the recent acquisition of a 30 per cent stake in Bionutricia Holding Sdn Bhd (BHSB) for RM8.7 million, Resintech sees plenty of opportunities the company can leverage in terms of products and solutions.
Resintech managing director Datuk Dr Teh Kim Poo said BHSB has a solid track record and a customer base ranging from multilevel marketing companies to sports nutrition specialists.
"It has partnered universities and Forest Research Institute Malaysia for research and development (R&D) activities offering customised formulations that are safe,
reliable and of high quality," he said in a statement recently.
Resintech is a fully integrated provider of polyethene products and uPVC, while BHSB is a biotechnology firm specialising in the production and commercialisation of plant- and fruit-based extracts and active fractions through advanced nano-biotechnology processes.
BHSB is among the handful of domestic biotechnology outfits specialising in food or agriculture-based R&D that offer solutions for the food and beverage industry.
Founded in 2006 as a trader of nutraceutical, beverage and traditional herbs, BHSB now offers services throughout the entire value chain, from sourcing and supplying raw material to R&D, production and warehousing backed by its patented extraction technology.
BHSB uses advanced nano-biotechnology processes to extract food and active ingredients derived from local plants and herbs into innovative health solutions for immune-boosting, antioxidants, detoxification, men's and women's health and children's supplements.
The company's patented extraction technology uses ultrasonic and enzyme processes to develop and produce
standardised plant extracts while its R&D team has more than 20 years of experience developing effective phytonutrients and nutraceuticals for health and beauty supplements.
BHSB's manufacturing plant in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, is certified Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), JAKIM halal and kosher.
"We invested in BHSB because we see a trend of people opting for a healthier lifestyle, which includes the food and drinks they consume.
"People are more aware of the additives, colourants and flavourings that goes into what they consume, and they are also more aware of food safety," Teh said.
He said there is huge potential for growth in safe and healthy additives for food and drinks and food supplements.
In addition, Teh said the company also cannot overlook the halal market, growing exponentially both in Malaysia and globally.
"We are looking forward to working with the BHSB team headed by chief executive officer Ng Kuak Ping and general manager Kong Siew Mee and supported by a strong R&D team, we will help grow the business together," Teh said.
