KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Bhd, in collaboration with CGS-CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd, held the Invest Malaysia London 2022 themed 'Rebuilding a Sustainable Economy', focused on the challenges, recovery and reform of the Malaysia economy.
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who has officiated the event, engaged with nineteen fund managers from the United Kingdom and Europe, with a combined total asset under management of around US$287 billion.
He also shared key data that reflected clear signs of economic recovery and improved prospects for growth in 2022.
He said these are backed by private sector spending amid improvements in labour market conditions, robust investment outlook, expansion in external demand, and continued fiscal support.
The government has identified five key measures to support the country's recovery momentum in 2022, including strengthening the public healthcare system, supporting all business segments, stimulating the labour market, advancing strategic investments and providing direct assistance to those in need.
Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia remains committed to long term fiscal consolidation and institutional reforms to build resilience, even as the country focuses on short- and medium-term recovery measures.
"The country's medium-term growth prospects remain strong, driven by an open, trade-oriented, and competitive economy complemented by a deep capital market and resilient financial sector," he said at the conference held at The May Fair Hotel London on March 23, 2022.
Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said Malaysia has a deep and mature capital market, with diversity, growth potential and a wide range of investment opportunities.
"Last year, Bursa Malaysia had seen increased fund-raising activities, with 30 initial public offerings (IPOs) compared to just 19 in 2020.
"We will actively pursue new foreign and domestic investors to grow our capital market further while providing solutions that will seriously encourage them to consider Malaysia a viable investment destination," said Umar.
Meanwhile, CGS-CIMB Securities chief executive officer Ruzi Ajith said the company is honoured to co-host the Invest Malaysia London 2022 with Bursa Malaysia.
Ruzi said as the country moves towards the post-pandemic era and recovery of the economy, it is important for CGS-CIMB Securities to showcase the resilience and competitiveness of Malaysia's capital market to fund managers and investors looking for opportunities abroad.
"With all the initiatives of the Malaysia government, we have also raised our year-end KLCI target for 2022F to 1,622pts," he said.
