KULAI, Johor: YTL Power International Bhd expects a whopping RM15 billion spending to develop its 500-megawatt YTL Green Data Centre Park in Kulai, Johor.
The first phase is the Sea Data Centre for Singapore's Sea Ltd with YTL Power investing RM1.5 billion in the development.
Sea will be the anchor tenant for the YTL Green Data Centre Park.
The Sea Data Centre is targeted to be completed by the first quarter of 2024.
The three-storey green facility will feature 24 data hall suites, M & E rooms, office space, storage, and parking facilities.
YTL Power managing director Datuk Yeoh Seok Hong said the first phase of the data centre would be a Tier-III certified facility equipped with the best-in-class green power and connectivity which will be able to accommodate up to 72MW of capacity.
He said the development marked a new phase of YTL's partnership with Sea.
"We are excited to provide world-class, green infrastructure to our partners using our group's deep expertise in solar energy, data centres, telecommunications, construction and property development," Yeoh said
He added that it was YTL Power's vision for the YTL Green Data Centre Park to be the largest and most successful of its kind in Asia.
The project will serve as the group's flagship integrated data centre vision for serving customers in the greater Singapore region, as well as a catalyst for its regional expansion in this space
Yeoh said the green park would also be the catalyst of the digital infrastructure in Johor.
He said not only would it transform Johor's economy by tapping into new high growth areas but it was also expected to spur the local economy by creating a conducive, productive and competitive business environment.
The ground breaking ceremony for the Sea Data Centre was officiated by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi today.
In his speech, Onn Hafiz commented on how the park would impact the state.
He said Johor had grown exponentially over the past few years, with developments that included data centre parks.
"We welcome developments such as these, particularly green and sustainable projects that will boost the state's economy. The digital economy has thrived since the pandemic, and this project (by YTL Power) will provide employment opportunities that will attract diverse multiskilled talents to the state," he said.
