KUALA LUMPUR: Chubb Insurance Malaysia Bhd has committed to reforestation efforts in Sabah and Sarawak through a collaboration with Animal Projects & Environmental Education Sdn Bhd (APE Malaysia).
The initiative is in line with Chubb's long history of supporting environmental and ecological restoration projects that protect biodiversity and capture or prevent the release of carbon.
Earlier this year, Chubb planted 220 trees via APE Malaysia's Restore Our Amazing Rainforest (ROAR) Programme.
"We recognise that supporting planned reforestation efforts is an important way in reversing biodiversity loss and mitigating climate change," Chubb Malaysia country president Steve Crouch said.
"It is with great pleasure to know that through this collaboration, we are not just helping to restore degraded forests, but also create reforestation-related job opportunities for the local community.
Launched under Chubb's "More Trees for A Better Tomorrow" project and APE Malaysia's ROAR programme, the reforestation initiative will see 10 new trees planted for every Chubb customer that has an Environmental Impairment Liability Insurance policy.
Policyholders will receive a photo and an electronic certificate showing the GPS coordinates where their trees are located.
The project is in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary in Sabah.
APE Malaysia project director Mazrul Mahadzir said the partnership allowed the company to plant more trees on habitat restoration sites in the sanctuary.
"In recent years, we have seen more companies and businesses taking positive actions for the environment."
