Velum Labs aims to make Malaysia a cybersecurity hub

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia-based cyber-intelligence and security company Velum Labs Sdn Bhd aims to tap the growing global demand for cybersecurity solutions and make Malaysia a recognised and reputable cyber-security and intelligence hub.

Head of cyber operations Mohd Azli Sastero said there is a growing demand worldwide, and the need for these solutions has become more critical, especially with the proliferation of cybercrime and digital warfare.

"To achieve our aim, we will continue to invest in developing Malaysian talent in this space, more so as there is currently a severe shortage of capable cyber security and intelligence experts not only in Malaysia but throughout the world," he said in a statement today.

Velum Labs is a home-grown cyber security and intelligence company run by Malaysian talents and supported by international experts to provide simple and non-intrusive cloud and cyber intelligence solutions to the global and local markets.

The core of the company's success has been to support local content and legacy programs, with an understanding that capacity building and transfer of knowledge remain key to true cyber resilience.

In pursuing its recognition further, Velum Labs also announced its role as the main sponsor of iHACK 2022, a premier cyber hacking competition spearheaded by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

Velum Labs will be sponsoring cash prizes and surprise gifts for the winners of iHACK 2022.

In addition, the company also created a modern pavilion as a platform for the participating teams to compete and educate and excite Malaysians on cyber-security.

"Sponsoring iHACK 2022 will be one of our initiatives to cultivate and develop local talent.

"This commitment will also run in tandem with the country's MyDigital aspirations where cyber-security will play a significant role moving forward," Mohd Azli said.

iHack 2022, in its 10th edition, will be held on 19 and 20 December 2022 at Wisma Perwira ATM.

This competition is open to all students of public and private institutions of higher learning, locally and internationally.

The primary objective of iHACK is to provide a platform for students to demonstrate their skills in solving cybersecurity problems.

iHACK 2022 will be held in conjunction with Siber Siaga 2022, organised by the Ministry of Defense's Cyber & Electromagnetics Division.

The event aims to promote knowledge and technology sharing in cybersecurity and increase cyber awareness across the Malaysian Armed Forces, business stakeholders, academic institutions, cyber security practitioners, and the public.
