KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd's (Petronas) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi-based technology company, AIQ Ltd to exchange experiences in building artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
The AI solutions could possibly accelerate energy transition and bolster sustainability.
Under the partnership, both companies will leverage knowledge and understanding of the energy industry to work on digital innovation through knowledge sharing, value creation, joint product development and commercialisation, capability development and engineering.
In a statement issued, Petronas said the companies will collaborate to pilot and test AI solutions to discover viable applications and use cases that generate value across multiple business verticals in the energy sector globally.
"Petronas and AIQ will also develop AI and advanced analytics best practices and frameworks to ensure commercial and operational excellence throughout their joint projects," it said.
Petronas group technology and commercialisation vice president Aadrin Azly said the company looks forward to the partnership with AIQ to transform its operations, improve employees skills and boost organisational productivity using AI.
AIQ chief executive officer Omar Al Marzooqi said the collaboration will accelerate the energy sector's digital transformation and steer it towards progressing to a more sustainable future.
"The challenges and perplexities of climate change call for smart and efficient solutions for the industry, and such collaborations ensure that world-class, efficient digital solutions are available for all industry players to benefit from," he said.
