Bursa Malaysia closes marginally lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed in negative territory as investors shifted to profit taking activities in the final minutes of trading.

The key index dropped 2.5 or 0.17 points to 1,451.94 after trading mostly in the positive territory with the highest level reached for the day at 1,462.80.

The broader market saw gainers and losers at 499 with 423 counters remained unchanged.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the firm remained optimistic in the mid term given strong support from foreign funds.

"Nonetheless, we expect trading to be muted towards the weekend in conjunction of the National Day celebration. As such we see the FBM KLCI to trend within the range of 1,450-1,460," he said. On the regional front, key indices trended higher following positive cue from Wall Street overnight.

Thong said improved performance on Wall Street followed the release of new U.S. economic data, which played a role in alleviating apprehensions regarding upcoming interest rate scenarios.
