Samenta urges Malaysians to dine-in at local F&B outlets with hike in delivery charges

KUALA LUMPUR: Small and Medium Enterprise Association (Samenta) Malaysia has urged Malaysians to dine-in at local food and beverage (F&B) outlets with the revision in delivery charges by delivery platforms.

Grab Malaysia yesterday announced it was adjusting its base fare, and increase the bonus pay out for such bookings that require more time and effort to complete by up to 20-30 per cent.

Samenta noted that fee revisions by major food delivery platforms may soon lead to local retailers and F&B outlets having to pay higher commission to delivery platforms.

Currently, merchants are being charged up to 32 percent commission on every delivery.

These commissions might reach up to 60 per cent of each sale when marketing and promotion costs are taken into account.

Prices for food and goods are marked up by 30 to 100 per cent to cover commissions and sustain marginal profitability.

"Malaysians should dine in and make direct purchases in order to break this vicious cycle and support local businesses and F&B entrepreneurs, " Samenta said.
