Surge in EV displays at Malaysia Autoshow as EV sales quadruple from 2022-2023

KUALA LUMPUR: There was a surge in electric vehicles (EVs) displays at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii), as sales of EV quadruple between 2022 and 2023.

The autoshow featured over 200 brands and exhibitors, with 47 new launches.

It was recognised as the largest international auto show by the Malaysian Book of Records.

About 50 per cent of the showcased vehicles were electric or hybrid models, highlighting the local automotive sector's strength and alignment with Malaysia's strategic policies, such as the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

Carsome Group president and chief operating officer Eric Chan  said the record number of new EV displays mirrors the quadrupling of EV registrations in Malaysia from 2022 to 2023.

"Positive trends suggest that EV adoption in 2024 will surpass 2023 figures, expanding commercial choices for consumers with competitive pricing, warranty packages, service, aftersales, and benefits like charge credits and free EV chargers," Chan said in a joint statement with MARii.

Carsome, the official trade-in partner of the Autoshow, enhanced customer experience by providing onsite inspection facilities and exclusive event-only offers.

"This year's Autoshow highlighted the dynamic and innovative spirit of Malaysia's automotive industry. "We are pleased to have Carsome's support in enhancing the car ownership journey for consumers and look forward to their continued collaboration in future events," MARii chief executive officer Azrul Reza Aziz said.
