KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) – The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) will host its 13th annual SSM National Conference next month with the theme 'Enhancing Corporate Transparency. Building Resilience'.
SSM chief executive officer Datuk Nor Azimah Abdul Aziz said the two-day virtual conference which will take place from Aug 27 to 28, aims, to provide a dynamic platform for board members and corporate professionals to enhance their understanding of strategies to bolster resilience.
It also aims to enhance corporate transparency by addressing current challenges and leveraging opportunities in today's rapidly evolving business landscape.
She said the conference will also highlight the recent enhancements to the Companies Act 2016 through the Companies (Amendment) Act 2024 which aims to bolster the legal framework for corporate rehabilitation, providing essential support to companies navigating financial challenges and contributing to economic revival as well as competitiveness.
"Additionally, the law strengthens corporate transparency regarding beneficial ownership reporting, enabling more robust enforcement against financial crimes such as money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption, and other serious offences," she told Bernama, today.
Nor Azimah added that the theme chosen for this year's national conference is apt for building a resilient, transparent, and innovative corporate landscape.
"In today's dynamic business landscape, corporate transparency and resilience are paramount towards creating a sustainable and thriving business ecosystem. This conference will provide a platform to delve into these crucial aspects and serve as a catalyst for progress in these areas," she said.
She also mentioned that SSM's national conference has made its mark as an earnest discourse and networking platform for business and corporate professionals to stay relevant in the ever-changing business environment.
This year's conference will feature 11 plenary sessions with 39 distinguished speakers and 15 virtual exhibitors, expected to attract about 3,000 delegates including industry leaders, company secretaries, corporate practitioners, professionals, academicians and senior executives.
