Bursa Malaysia opens lower as profit-taking continues

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened in the red on Friday as profit-taking continued.

At 9.15am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI was down 0.13 per cent or 2.18 points to 1,620.94 versus Thursday's close of 1,623.12.

The key index opened 0.39 points lower at 1,622.73. Losers led gainers in the broader market with 417 to 228 while 400 counters were unchanged.

The index board was a sea of red with FBM100 tumbling 0.19 per cent to 12,132.52, FBM Emas dropped 0.20 per cent to 12,557.48 and FBM Ace dropped 0.58 per cent to 5,907.46.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI closed higher on Thursday as stock accumulation persisted despite some profit-taking activities.

"We reckon buying interests may be gaining momentum as daily traded volume surpassed the five billion shares level. As such, we believe the index will hover between the 1,620-1,630 range today," he said.

On the global front, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 32 points while the Nasdaq lost 364 points with the US 10-year yield ending lower at 4.211 per cent.
