KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has appointed Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz as CIMB Thai Bank's chairman and director, effective July 19, 2024.
He succeeds Datuk Robert Cheim Dau Meng, who has retired.
Azmil was appointed as non-independent director of CIMB Group on July 1, 2024.
Formerly the chief investment officer at Khazanah Nasional Bhd, he served Khazanah in various senior positions, including deputy managing director and executive director of investments from 2011 to 2022.
He was also the managing director and chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines from 2009 to 2011, having previously held the positions of executive director and chief financial officer.
Prior to that, Azmil was in multiple leadership roles at Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and Hong Kong.
He is also currently the chair of the board of CelcomDigi Bhd and independent non-executive director of Sime Darby Bhd, as well as a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
Azmil holds a degree in economics from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
He is a chartered accountant and an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
