KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened marginally higher, tracking Wall Street's momentum despite an initial choppy session.
At 9.11am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI was up 0.39 per cent or 6.38 points to 1,646.18.
The key index opened 4.24 points or 0.25 per cent higher at 1,644.04 versus Wednesday's close of 1,639.80.
Gainers led losers in the broader market 306 to 135 while 254 counters were unchanged.
Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI slumped to just below the 1,640 level yesterday amid regional weaknesses, which came as a surprise.
"Nonetheless, we were indeed surprised by the rate of the decline. "We expect a swift rebound and expect the index to hover within the 1,640-1,650 range today. "Meanwhile, crude oil prices rebounded after a 1-week downtrend with the Brent crude currently trending just above the US$70 per barrel," said Thong. On the index board, FBM100 dropped 1.22 per cent to 11,873.20, FBM Emas was down 1.21 per cent to 12,150.68 and FBM Ace tumbled 0.9 per cent to 4,993.78.
