KUALA LUMPUR: The Solvers from SMK Bandar Puncak Jalil emerged as state champions at the recent Shell NXplorers 2024 Peninsular Malaysia Challenge.
The Elemental Innovators from SMK Aminuddin Baki secured the title of first runner-up in this challenge.
"Both these teams will represent Peninsular Malaysia at the national Shell NXplorers Malaysia challenge, which will take place later this year," Shell Malaysia said in a statement.
Shell NXplorers 2024, a STEM competition by Shell encourages school students to collaborate in designing and developing solutions for real-world issues related to the food-water-energy nexus.
"I am genuinely impressed by the innovative solutions presented by all our finalists today. This demonstrates that promoting STEM education early on plays a crucial role in shaping tomorrow's leaders who are committed to contributing to a sustainable future.
"We at Shell are committed towards investing in our youth and providing them with the necessary skills and tools, while nurturing future innovators and engineers through Shell NXplorers Malaysia," said Shell Malaysia Upstream general manager of projects Norizah Othman.
With support from the Ministry of Education, Shell NXplorers Malaysia engaged over 890 secondary school students from 26 schools nationwide.
These students had the chance to experience hands-on STEM learning with an emphasis on technology. This year in Peninsular Malaysia, 80 teams comprising more than 240 students took part in the programme.
It also included peer-to-peer sharing to extend knowledge to a wider student community of approximately 1000 students across all participating schools in Peninsular Malaysia.
