KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has lifted the force majeure on gas supply to its liquefaction terminal MLNG Dua in Bintulu, Sarawak effective from Nov 1.
Force majeure refers to an unexpected event such as a war, crime or an earthquake which prevents someone from doing something that is written in a legal agreement, according to Cambridge Dictionary.
Previously, Petronas in Oct 2022 announced force majeure on gas supply to MLNG Dua due to a pipeline leak caused by soil movement at the Sabah-Sarawak gas pipeline.
It noted that the incident had affected its delivery commitments to some of its contracted LNG buyers and it was in discussions to identify suitable mitigation efforts.
In a statement today, the national oil company said the decision follows the successful commissioning of Jerun and Kasawari earlier this year, two new gas fields in Sarawak now providing a reliable source of feedgas.
"Petronas extends its sincere appreciation to its stakeholders, partners, and customers for their trust and collaboration throughout this period.
"Looking ahead, Petronas reaffirms its commitment to meeting its contractual obligations, ensuring a stable and reliable supply of LNG to meet the energy needs of its customers," it said.
