Bursa Malaysia builds on last week's momentum, opens higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened mixed on Monday as the key index remains in the consolidation stage.

At 9.21 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI added 0.27 per cent or 4.27 points, to 1,594.05 versus Friday's close of 1,589.78.

The key index opened 4.09 points higher at 1,593.87.

The broader index, however, saw decliners lead gainers 268 to 242, while 356 counters were unchanged.

On the index board, FBM100 added 0.23 per cent to 11,842.18, FBM Emas rose 0.22 per cent to 12,137.94, and FBM Ace dropped 0.41 per cent to 5,142.12.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI pared gains in late trading but still ended in positive territory last week.

"While buying interest remains lacklustre, the index's proximity to the oversold region could present opportunities to accumulate on dips.

"We expect the benchmark index to remain in the consolidation stage and expect it to trend within the range of 1,585-1,610 for today," he added.
