KUALA LUMPUR: George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd has secured a RM26.7 milion contract to improve water supply infrastructure from Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar Sarawak.
George Kent, in a statement, said the contract is for the Sarawak water supply grid programme's stressed area project.
The project, it added, will significantly enhance the supply infrastructure along Bakun road from Laban to Tubau areas in Bintulu, Sarawak.
Work on the project has commenced, with completion scheduled for June 30, 2026.
The scope of work includes the supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems.
The project aims to provide reliable and sustainable access to clean water for communities in Sarawak's stressed areas, supporting regional development and improving the quality of life for residents.
In this endeavour, George Kent partnered with the main sub-contractor Techkem Utilities, which was appointed by the main contractor.
"The collaboration highlights its commitment to forming strategic partnerships that bring together expertise and resources to deliver high-impact projects," it said.
Executive chairman Tan Sri Tan Kay Hock said securing the project is a pivotal moment as it marks George Kent's first venture into the Sarawak market.
"This project not only represents a significant business win but also signals our strategic intent to expand our presence across Malaysia."
