Bursa Malaysia closes higher on widespread buying interest

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia maintained its uptrend at midday break on widespread buying interest.

At 12.30pm, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI rose  0.22 per cent or 3.44 points to 1,598.92.

The key index moved between 1,594.07 and 1,602.90 levels in the morning trading session.

The broader market saw gainers lead losers 489 to 410 while 470 counters were unchanged.

On the index board, FBM100 added 0.24 per cent to 11,866.32, FBM Emas rose 0.23 per cent to 12,176.38 and FBM Ace gained 0.33 per cent to 5,139.34.

Maybank Investment Bank said that FBM KLCI hovered around the 1,600 mark, moving sideways with signs of recovery in the broader market as gainers outpaced laggards.

"Glove counters led gains in the healthcare sector, with contributions from Hartalega Holdings Bhd, Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd, and Top Glove Corporation Bhd."

"Meanwhile, the industrials sector continued its upward trend, marking three consecutive days of positive movement," it said in a note.
