KUALA LUMPUR: National carmaker Proton has recorded November sales of 12,194 units in both domestic and export market, a slight decrease of 4.7 per cent compared to October.
This figure, however, is in-line with the contraction in total industry volume (TIV) of 4.1 per cent for Malaysian automotive sales, it said in a statement.
This brought the company's year to date (YTD) total sales volume to 137,751 units with Proton retaining its position as the second most popular brand in the national sales rankings.
Forecast market share for the month is 18.2 per cent, leading to a YTD figure of 18.8 per cent for full-year 2024.
According to Proton, the Proton X70 has reclaimed the top spot for C-segment SUV sales as it increased by 7.7 per cent month-on-month (MoM) to 1,065 units in November, bringing its YTD total to 7,536 units.
Meanwhile the Proton X90, retained its position as market leader for D-segment SUVs with a 13.1 per cent MoM growth to 277 units, contributing to a YTD sales total of 3,246 units.
The third model to lead its segment is the Proton S70, which celebrated its first anniversary on 28 November.
A total of 1,312 units were sold last month, powering the sedan back to the sales lead in its segment and bringing total YTD sales to 17,512 units.
As for the brand's most popular SUV, the Proton X50, 1,911 units were delivered last month bringing YTD sales to 21,033 units, making it the most popular model in its segment.
Since its launch in October 2020, the B-segment SUV has become the fastest selling SUV in Malaysia, and it remains as the best-selling model in its segment to-date.
Finally, sales of other Proton models remained strong with the Proton Saga achieved 5,916 sales to bring its YTD total to 66,094 units and positioning it to breach the 70,000 total sales mark for a second year in a row.
Its B-segment sedan sister, the Proton Persona, registered 1,394 units in November for a total YTD figure of 17,325 units while Proton's B-segment hatchback, the Proton Iriz, sold 319 units to bring its total sales to date to 4,762 units.
Meanwhile, Proton Saga shipments to Egypt help set new export benchmark for the year with a total of 480 units of the left-hand drive (LHD) shipped last months.
The carmaker said it is a remarkable 300 per cent growth against the 120 units shipped to the country a month prior.
To-date, 2,203 units of the Proton Saga have been exported this year, leading to total exports volume for 2024 already exceeding the number for the whole of 2023.
Proton Edar chief executive officer Roslan Abdullah said the company is gearing up to drive year-end sales numbers.
"Our commitment to delivering quality vehicles is evident in the continued success of models such as the Proton X70, Proton X90 and Proton Saga, which have all achieved significant milestones this year.
