KUALA LUMPUR: Globetronics Technology Bhd will partner Invest-in-Penang Bhd (Invest Penang) to support an initiative by the state government to enhance the semiconductor and integrated circuit (IC) design ecosystem there.
Under this partnership, Globetronics unit Globetronics Manufacturing Sdn Bhd will play a pivotal role as an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) provider.
The scope of collaboration includes supporting chip design houses with package design and process development, assembly test engineering sample builds, and qualification builds.
Upon successful implementation, the company aims to scale these efforts into mass production, solidifying its role in the region's semiconductor supply chain.
Invest Penang will facilitate coordination between stakeholders and ensure alignment via its Penang Silicon Design @5km+ (PSD@5km+) initiative.
The semiconductor manufacturer said the PSD@5km+ initiative is a strategic programme which includes the establishment of the Penang IC Design & Digital Park, the Penang Chip Design Academy, and the Silicon Research & Incubation Space, aimed at fostering innovation, talent development, and entrepreneurship within the semiconductor sector.

"By leveraging our advanced manufacturing capabilities and expertise, we are committed to driving the PSD@5km+ initiative's success and contributing to the growth of the local semiconductor ecosystem," Globetronics said in a statement.
This partnership highlights its strategic direction to innovate and expand offerings in alignment with the region's growing demand for advanced semiconductor solutions.
Globetronics' share price closed 1.8 per cent higher to 55.5 sen a share, giving it a market capitalisation of RM374.8 million.
