Budget 2025: Kesuma puts strong emphasis on TVET institutions

LYON: The Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma) is prioritising the strengthening of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under its purview through Budget 2025.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said that the focus on TVET has been highlighted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also serves as the Finance Minister.

"Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong has discussed the critical TVET agenda with the Finance Minister. TVET is a key priority for us," he said during the WorldSkills Competition (WSC 2024) on Thursday.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang was also present.

Abdul Rahman added that KESUMA oversees 32 TVET institutions, including industrial training institutes (ILPs) and advanced technology training centres (Adtecs), which require funding for improvements.

"We need more funding for TVET," he said.

Meanwhile, Rubiah emphasised that the government's commitment to TVET development will generate a more highly skilled workforce for the country.

"The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) manages 1,735 TVET institutions, and we are confident that we can produce significantly more skilled professionals," she said.

On June 8, the Prime Minister announced an immediate allocation of RM200 million to enhance and boost youth participation in TVET.

The Budget 2025, themed 'Ekonomi MADANI: Negara Makmur, Rakyat Sejahtera,' is scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 18.
