KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia is set to host the 63rd World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) General Assembly & Annual Meeting, after a 26-year hiatus, from November 19 to 21, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur.
This highly anticipated event will see more than 300 industry leaders, regulatory authorities, and institutional representatives from over 50 global organisations converge for high-level discussions on the future of capital markets.
The WFE, a global industry body representing exchanges and clearing houses, rotates the location of its flagship annual meeting across regions and this year's event marks a historic return to Malaysia, which last hosted the gathering 26 years ago in 1998.
The conference will feature a keynote address by Malaysia's prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alongside a series of fireside chats and panel discussions.
Notable sessions include a chat on Malaysia's capital markets by Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan moderated by Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, as well as a session with world-renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall, moderated by Bursa Malaysia and WWF-Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, exploring the intersection of markets and biodiversity.
In their joint welcome message, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift said Bursa Malaysia looks forward to further contribute to the WFE's efforts to help shape and guide the development of global capital markets, as well as promote greater diversity and inclusion.
"We are also excited to share some of the latest developments from Malaysia, and how the wider Asean region is collaborating on initiatives that will position the region as a forerunner in sustainability leadership to meet the evolving needs of market participants," they said.
The event also aligns with Malaysia's upcoming role as chair of the Asean in 2025 as the conference will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Collaboration among several Asean exchanges, further underscoring the region's commitment to advancing sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
"The Asean region is a dynamic powerhouse, driven by the innovation and energy of its exchanges". "We are delighted to be in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by Bursa Malaysia, whose efforts are central to the industry and the nation," WFE CEO Nandini Sukumar said.
