KUALA LUMPUR: The all-new Honda CR-V, which was launched only last week, has proven its supremacy in the SUV segment, achieving its two months’ sales target of 1,400 bookings in just one week.
Honda Malaysia, in a statement, said it has set a monthly sales target of 700 units at the launch of this fifth generation all-New CR-V last week.
It said of the four variants introduced for the all-new CR-V, the 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD, is the most popular accounting for 40 per cent of the bookings, followed by the 1.5L Turbocharged 2WD at 31 per cent.
It said in total, bookings for the turbocharged variants stand at the anticipated 80 per cent while the non-turbocharged variant is at 20 per cent.
“This ratio shows that Malaysians are more receptive towards turbocharged engines, in line with the trend seen for the Civic, as well as the maturing of the Malaysian market that now values advanced technology more,” it said.
The new CR-V was launched simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching, Sarawak as an opportunity for Honda Malaysia to widen its market share in East Malaysia.
Honda Malaysia said the 1.5L Turbocharged Premium 2WD variant is well received by East Malaysians, with sales of this variant standing at 38 per cent.
“The improvements of the powertrain, 4WD system and additional safety features have contributed to the sway in the buying intention among East Malaysians,” it said.
It said the launch in Kuching marked the second time that Honda Malaysia conducted launch events in East Malaysia simultaneously with Kuala Lumpur – the first being the launch of the BR-V.
“That landmark launch in January this year paved the way for greater acceptance of Honda vehicles in East Malaysia, helping to propel the sales contribution from the region to 10 per cent in first half of 2017,” it said.
It said currently, sales in Sabah and Sarawak stand at more than 3,500 units, accounting for 6.6 per cent of total sales for first half of 2017.
The year-on-year growth is at 48 per cent compared to the same period last year, it said.
Honda Malaysia said despite the high demand for the new CR-V, the company is working hard to ensure that the waiting period for customers is maintained at the standard period of one to two months, without compromise to quality.
It said the company targets to deliver to all customers who have already booked the new CR-V by September.
For under RM170,000, the new CR-V offers Next Generation Advanced Technology and more features in a stronger package that delivers performance and safety.
The warranty for the CR-V is maintained at five years with unlimited mileage at 10,000 kilometre service intervals at any of the 91 Honda authorised dealers nationwide.
