Keeping your car in good condition during MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: The Movement Control Order (MCO) does not mean your should leave your car idle.

There are ways to ensure your vehicle is in good condition, said a car expert.

Allianz General Insurance Company (Malaysia) Bhd head of motor Jimmy Tan said there are a few tricks to keep your car in good shape throughout the MCO.

“Take your car(s) for a drive by having the head of the household alternate between cars when going out to buy groceries.

“Driving it for a short distance, maybe once a week would keep your car running smoothly and help to recharge the battery. Take note to accelerate slowly at the beginning of the drive.

“Fill the petrol tank and pump your tires the next time you are out getting groceries. It will prevent moisture from building up inside the tank; and remember to inflate your tires as temperature changes may also cause your tyres to slowly lose its pressure,” he said in a statement.

Tan also advised people to practice good hygiene by bringing along a hand sanitiser to use before getting into their vehicles, and after fuelling up the tank and inflating car tyres.

Another tip Tan suggested was to wash the car and keep the car covered from the sun and rain. He said this could be easily done at home.

“Take this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning. Give the interior a good wipe down and remove all unwanted items and give your car a new coat of polish or wax to protect the finish.

“Show your car some extra care and use a cover to protect it from the sun and rain,” he said.

Tan also reminded car owners to renew their motor insurance by contacting their insurers about motor policy renewal.

Allianz General will be offering a temporary price reduction on motor insurance premium (for Private Car Comprehensive and Third Party Fire and Theft; Motorcycle Comprehensive including Motorcycle Plus Goods Vehicles A and C Permit, Comprehensive for vehicle age 1 to 5 years).

This offer is extended to the company’s “Motor Road Warrior” Private Car Comprehensive policyholders from April 10 to May 10.
