Students volunteer at animal shelter

SUNWAY University’s student volunteers joined hands with Pet Lovers Centre for its pilot “TLC from PLC”, a new series of initiatives to help animal shelter PAWS Malaysia at Ara Damansara recently.

In its first edition, the beneficiary of the initiative is animal shelter and adoption centre, PAWS Malaysia.

Students volunteers helped out to feed and bathe the animals, walk the dogs, and clean up the shelter.

Pet Lovers Centre, meanwhile, contributed cat food from its in-house brand, Burp! and Menforsan cat and dog shampoos.

Speaking on behalf of the student volunteers, Sunway Student Volunteers wildlife department director Emily Kong had expressed her pleasure in participating in the event.

“We hope that our involvement has made a difference for PAWS Malaysia, and we thank Pet Lovers Centre for giving us the opportunity to join the event,” she said.

She added that the volunteers had the opportunity to be part of a good cause, and hoped that they benefited from the event.

Pet Lovers Centre Malaysia operations director Bryan Boo said PAWS Malaysia has been one of its long-time partners, and the centre was happy to let the latter benefit from the programme.

“PAWS Malaysia is happy to be part of the first-ever ‘TLC from PLC’ event, and felt that it should be continued in the future.

“Like all events that can bring relief to the shelter and support poor unwanted animals, it should not be a one-off event.

“Instead, it should be encouraged, as the responsibility of these animals rests not solely on non-governmental organisations, such as PAWS

“It is the responsibility of society at large,” PAWS Malaysia shelter manager Edward Lim said.

Pet Lovers Centre hopes to continue the ‘TLC from PLC’ initiative with more events and activities in the future.
