Technology may be an integral part of our lives but it's crucial that we maintain a healthy balance between the virtual world and real life by unplugging from devices and social media platforms once in a while.
Spirit Media and Jordan Stephens who founded the #IAmWhole mental health campaign, is working together with cosmetics brand Lush and Zoe Sugg, founder of make-up brand Zoella, to launch a collaborative project called Digital Detox Day (DDD) on Sept 5, which aims to encourage participants to step away from social media for a day.
The campaign wants to raise the issue of negative effects that social media can have on mental health, besides encouraging users to build a healthier relationship with these platforms and their devices.
CAMPAIGN FACE
Sugg has been appointed to be the face of the campaign. Stephen says Zoe is the perfect person to lead this campaign. I'm proud that #IAmWhole is able to partner with both Zoe and Lush to raise awareness as well as funds for grassroots mental health charities."
Meanwhile, Sugg expressed her excitement over working with #IAmWhole and Lush for the campaign as it introduces boundaries into social media use while simultaneously encouraging participants to reflect on their lives offline.
"I love social media, it's incredible in so many ways and it has helped built communities and businesses and has given people a platform in order to share their stories that might not otherwise have been heard.
"However, as the years progress and social media has grown in size, it's clear that it has flaws too," said Sugg.
Leading up to DDD, #IAmWhole will introduce a series of discussions on Sugg's IGTV channel which focuses on topics of body image, cyberbullying, anxiety, human connection and setting digital boundaries.
Participants will also be encouraged to draw a circle on the palm of their hand with the word 'Off' the day before the campaign.
