Life has its ups and downs but it's a beautiful journey that's meant to be embraced to the fullest. Umma's Alun Eid 2021 collection reflects on this, as it's inspired by the firm belief of growing and moving along together with the waves of life.
The new line-up carries timeless pieces which according to the brand, is meant to be there with the wearer throughout the many tides to come. Founder Zairin Azman says the collection this year is definitely more evergreen and sustainable, perfect to be passed down for generations to come.
She says the name Alun was chosen because of the detailing of the clothing. "We have waves and scallop detailing which relate so much to the situation we are in. Alun also means that you would want to move along together with the waves. As the saying goes, go with the flow," she says.
The brand injects its own Umma twist in the traditional wear presented in the women's selection. The pieces carry names like Canggung, Hala, Inang, Joget, Mak Yong and Randai which are all two-piece ensembles.
Only Canggung and Mak Yong are designed with prints, while the others are plain. Canggung is made of cotton viscose with abstract floral motifs and comes with a pretty pareo skirt.
Meanwhile, Mak Yong is a printed two-piece kaftan also with abstract floral motifs, designed in cotton viscose too.
As for the men, they are treated to a range of earthy toned kurta in short and three-quarter sleeves made with cotton mix material.Names of the kurtas include Ara, Cendana, Merbau and Tualang.
