Painting the town Red Velvet: Rising K-pop girl group dazzles M'sians

KUALA LUMPUR: "Akhirnya kami di Malaysia!" (We’re finally in Malaysia!) exclaimed Wendy, a member of rising South Korean girl group, Red Velvet, today.

Sounding just like a local, Wendy further impressed members of the press and guests at a press conference at the Pullman Hotel Bangsar, by saying a few more Malay phrases.

"Terima kasih, aku cinta padamu," (Thanks, I love you) said Wendy shyly, as the rest of the members applauded her effort.

Wendy, together with bandmates Irene, Yeri and Seulgi, are in town to promote their new mini-album, Rookie, and interact with their Malaysian fans.

However, Red Velvet's fifth member, Joy, was unable to join them for their first trip here, as she is currently filming a show in Seoul.

The group was all smiles as they took questions from the floor.

"We've heard so much about Malaysia, and it's really exciting to finally be here ourselves. This is such a beautiful place," said Seulgi.

Meanwhile, Irene said she could not wait to meet their fans.

"We're very thankful for their support, and we can't wait to meet and thank them ourselves," she said.

The group will be making a special appearance at Berjaya Times Square’s LG Concourse at 6pm today. Although the event is open to the public, only 200 lucky fans will get their Rookie albums autographed.

Tomorrow, Red Velvet will perform a mini showcase and hold a fan meet at the Bentley Music Auditorium, Mutiara Damansara at 4pm.
