Nat Geo's Uncover Malaysia contest offers RM12,000 photography gear as top prize

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Geographic Channel is calling all Malaysians to share their uniquely Malaysian stories through its Uncover Malaysia contest.

To participate, just take your best shot of what you think makes Malaysia unique and post it on social media.

The contest, in conjunction with the upcoming Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, will run until Sept 5.

“The picture could be of their favourite hawker serving up delectable local fare at a neighbourhood kopitiam, iconic architectural landmarks such as The Stadthuys in Melaka or the Sultan Abdul Samad Building in Kuala Lumpur, or even of communities feeding the homeless through local soup kitchen initiatives,” said FOX Networks Group (Malaysia) marketing director Penny Tan.

“There are so many stories to be told, everywhere you go – and we want Malaysians to help us uncover them through the Uncover Malaysia contest,” she added.

To take part, take a picture with your smartphone based on any of these themes: Culture, Flavours, History, and People.

Then, follow @uncovermalaysia on Instagram; or “National Geographic Asia” on Facebook.

Upload your picture with a unique caption that describes your Uncover Malaysia story in relation to any of the four themes.

Remember to add the #NatGeoUncoverMY hashtag in your post and also tag @uncovermalaysia on Instagram or National Geographic Asia on Facebook.

The participant with the best entry will take home photography gear worth RM12,000.

The next 30 best entries will receive the exclusive opportunity to be featured in a Nat Geo Channel TV commercial, as well as on the National Geographic Asia Facebook page and the Uncover Malaysia microsite’s Online Gallery.

On top of that, all 31 top participants will also win a one-year National Geographic magazine subscription.

This contest comes in line with the channel’s second instalment of Uncover Malaysia – a campaign which includes a line-up of TV documentaries and online vignettes which showcase the country’s vibrant heritage after 60 long years of post-colonial independence and the establishment of Malaysia as a nation.

The Uncover Malaysia documentaries will air on National Geographic (Astro Channel 553/573) on Thursdays and Saturdays at 8pm until Sept 16, while the online vignettes are available on www.uncovermalaysia.com.

Visit the same website for more info on the photo contest, as well as the documentaries’ programme schedule.
