KUALA LUMPUR: BTS made history as the first South Korean boyband to perform at the prestigious American Music Awards on Sunday night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
And also thanks to its superb performance of its latest single DNA, the seven-member act has been receiving so much attention that it became the no. 1 searched item on Google search trends in the US, with over one million searches.
And it appeared that BTS fans, who call themselves Army, weren’t the only ones blown away by the group’s explosive performance.
Oscar-winning American actor, and rocker of the band Thirty Seconds To Mars, Jared Leto, who went on stage right after BTS’ performance said, “I need a moment to recover from that performance. That was incredible!”
Congratulatory messages by South Korean celebrities soon came in for BTS on social media for its historic debut on American television.
The members from the South Korean talent agency BigHit Entertainment, namely RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, sat down after the ceremony for a live video chat with their fans.
They shared their surreal experiences of performing on such an “amazing” stage, and of having so many people coming up to talk to them that the situation felt like a hidden camera gag.
Besides thanking the fans for their support, BTS promised to return to the US for future shows and performances.
As part of its current trip there, BTS will be making its appearances on top American talk shows including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Late Show With James Corden.
On Friday, the group will be releasing the remix version of its popular track Mic Drop from its latest EP Love Yourself: Her, featuring American record producer Steve Aoki and rapper Desiigner.
Besides breaking many records on Billboard with its music, BTS was awarded the Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards 2017 last May.
